Lonely Planet's "The Gambia & Senegal" is as complete as a guidebook can be. We travel a lot and usually do our planning with information found online. But this is our first trip to West Africa and we found most of the info available was from personal blogs, which are interesting but don't have the wide variety of knowledge we need, or the standard travel booking sites which are useless for anything more than flight and hotel selection. There are some info sites, but these are not well-organized or comprehensive."The Gambia & Senegal" had the answers to all our basic questions about Senegal, and was written in an easy-going, easy to read manner. Further investigation into particulars shows that some of the content is obsolete, a standard drawback to printed books, but the book does give a good detailed overview of geography, customs, culture, history, the cities, where to stay and eat and what to expect as a visitor.This book provides a good framework for trip planning. It's also small and light enough for us to carry along.

Good travel guide.
This book is pretty good and comprehensive, but it is a bit outdated now. There were some incorrect parts when I was there for 6 months in 2011.
