I saved this for the morning of the hospital visit to pass the time while we waited to be taken into surgery. The activity of finding the stickers and putting them in the book was a good distraction and my daughter enjoyed it. She's nearly 3 and this book was perfect for her, could work for older kids, too. Will definately buy again for friends and family with small children who need to go to the hospital. Little boy in the book is going in for tubes.
This is one of those 'easy reader' books that come out of England, I believe, but it works well for a "read to me" book also. We have a ton of these, this particular one was great for when my 3.5 year old son was going in for same day surgery. The pictures look more English than American (i.e. my son asked what that THING was on the nurses' head - a nurses' cap) but overall these books do a great job at just explaining what is going on, with real people. Much like a picture book, and nothing offensive or scary about it.
a must buy for any family having to bring their child to the hospital.. Eases the anxiety. The books are from the UK so the hospital setting is a little different than what we experience in the USA but still similar enough. Finding the Duck in every pic makes Usborne books very popular with the little ones!
Great book to use if you have to prepare your kid for surgery. We used this with my 3yo. Got the sticker version too, which kept the waiting room from getting too tense. I also used the Playmobil portable hospital.
I bought this book for my 3 year old son, prior to him having his tonsils removed and tubes put in. It really prepared him as far as understanding what would happen. The fact that it had stickers was a huge plus -- what 3 year old doesn't love sticker books!?
I ordered two of these for my granddaughters when they had their adenoids removed. They were very helpful in explaining to them what they may see and do at the hospital.
