Esther has a candid and sometimes unexpected way of writing very contemporary and fresh interpretations and thinking points for each week’s Torah readings. Sometimes they are fun and sweet - like when she talked about going to Calvert Cliffs with her sweet kids and breathing in the beauty of the moment, reminding us to enjoy the unexpected path our lives can take. Sometimes they are brutally honest and stark, like asking us how we want to die - as if we could chose. (But that was her point.) I often don't make time to focus on the Torah Portion for Shabbat - frankly sometimes I don't even make time for Shabbat in this crazy life I am living. But Shabbat and a little Torah slip into my focus with each reading and, even if just for the 5 minutes it takes to read it, even if it is two days later, Esther reminds me to stop and allow Torah to teach me.
Esther's weekly stories provide an interesting, insightful, and fun way to connect modern life with the ancient tales from the Bible. I highly recommend A Story Every Week for those young and old who want to learn and to be entertained by good stories and great wisdom.
