I devoured this book. Not because it is light or necessarily an easy read. But it is compelling.Kaci Kai provides a bold and brave introduction to her own life and self-reflection. Sure, the chosen words and meter are curated for their sounds and song, and they are beautiful on their own. But more than that, the words act as mirror for Kaci. They also serve as judge. There is raw honesty provided. Kaci is not reflecting on the beauty of a sunset, or a child's laughter. More than theme's, the poems are functioning as therapist and torturer for her. You want to reach through the pages and provide some solace until, as with any good work of art, you see yourself in the pain and self-flagellation. While not a complex work, it is clear that the introspection and truth of her experience is hard to get to. And every drop of blood shows in this work.This isn't a book of poetry. It is an autobiography or perhaps a memoir in the form of poetry. It is a reminder that poetry is life and poetry IS life.

A book of poetry written by a young woman from a certain fly over state. Poetry is not something I read a lot of, but I bought this because I wanted to support someone dear to me.This book by Kaci Kai is filled with poetry sharing heart break, uncertainty, love and questions all the while painting a picture of a person growing through her struggles.I loved The Best Sunsets where she finds she's wrong that clear skies make the best sunsets, they come from the skies filled with cellulite, wrinkles and folds.Ending with Endeavor a short poem that tells me that she's able to work out most of her doubts, fears and heart break and move forward.I hope she writes another. I enjoyed this short, simple but full of mental pictures and words that were probably not only hard to put on the paper, but to take the step in sharing it with the readers.

This is a book I had to slow down, and read. Then re-read.Kaci has a remarkable way of making your brain think it’s thinking one thing, then to double back on itself and come a to a great realisation. More than once, I paused, and let the poetry sink in. Its raw, it’s honest and it’s enlightening. Its great poetry.Worth buying, and reading out loud.

Raw, stunning, brave. Don’t stop. You thrill me.These poems jolt you from your scroll to your woke, alive self.

This is the realest book I’ve read in a very long time. If you are looking for a book that explores what it means to be human - the worst + the best - this is an absolute must read.

It’s genuine. I really enjoyed the heart of it. It’s an easy paced read with encouragement, disappointment, and real-ness. The format isn’t my favorite for some of the entries, but that’s not to say that they aren’t well done.

These poems are relatable in many ways. The author speaks of mental illness, relationships, and heartbreak in a way that will touch many people.

The book arrived and I read it cover to cover. And then, I read it again the next night.The poems are simple, yet very deep. Happy, but sad. All the things. My favorite poems are "Like a Footnote," "Instead" and "Endeavor."I recommend this book to everyone. The writing is brave and relatable. It tells a story of hope and evolution.
