I used Buck's books for the first two tests and thought they were extremely valuable. I didn't think that way so much for the Extra exam version. The content of the Amateur Extra test question pool is much more intensive, and the answers are far more nuanced than they were in the previous tests, so this method of reading only the question with the correct answer is harder to justify as a primary learning tool for this one important reason: the incorrect answers for the Extra test are much closer in wording to the correct answer than they were before, making it much easier to be confused when you're taking the test.Having said that, the book is good for reviewing - AFTER you've learned the reasoning that differentiates the nuances between answers in the question pool.

This is genius.I have been struggling with publications and study guides and practice tests and flash cards and all kinds of junk for over a year. This Extra Class publication came to my attention by way of Amazon, and I ordered it straightaway, after reading briefly about the approach (the right answers will pop out at you). It made perfect sense.I opened the package from Amazon at 2:00 PM today, and studied the E1 subelement material in its entirety. I then went against the author's recommendation and tested myself with a practice exam, but only on the E1 questions.Perfect score. Nailed every one. And it's only 4:00PM.I will happily post my exam result after I pass Extra, which in my estimation should happen sometime in February of this year. After that, I'll be buying the author's other publications and singing his praises to my fellow Hams.Genius.

I have had the ARRL Extra class book for a while and have tried several different websites and apps to study for my exam. I still recommend getting the ARRL book but this book makes it so much easier studying for the exam because you don't see a bunch of wrong answers mixed in with the right one. If you just want to pass the test without going into the details, this is the book to get and forget all those websites and apps, but I highly recommend getting to know the subject matter too but that is my opinion. The print is larger than the ARRL books making it easier to read which is also a bonus for those of us with less than perfect eyesight.

Another great book by Buck. Follows the NEVEC question pool. I use it in conjunction with the ARRL study guide if I need more understanding of a given topic but if you just want to pass then the book alone is fine. If your unsure about a question take the time to do additional studying. It's a hobby but I feel it's always best to learn as much as possible. The more you understand the easier it is to grasp additional concepts.

I used the previous book and that was amazing but I believe this book does NOT hold muster compared to the last book. Although the content of the book is priceless, the way the book is presented does not help in studying for the Extra exam. I believe if Craig wrote the book in a story format, it could really help the individuals who have no clue on what the terminology means and at the same time study for the test. Also some of the "hints" provided are great, many others are completely useless unless you know what Craig is talking about.

It depends on your study style, but I found this book intuitive and easy to use. As Buck emphasizes, the key to this book is that you study (read) only the correct answer to the question set. It was especially helpful as I moved on to the higher elements with more detail and question pool. This book plus lots of online practice tests will get you over the line. In my case, an hour or so a day for a week utilizing this book and practice tests for the Technician class did the trick. Six weeks later I sat down for both the General and Extra classes on the same day and that took me considerable preparation time and concentration to pass both exams. I probably spent about three weeks to concurrently prepare for the two elements. If you plan to earn the Amateur Extra class, it will be beneficial to take the three exams in a relatively short span of time since a good number of concepts overlap across the 3 elements. The Extra class exam is 50 question test drawn from a pool of 712 questions. Not easy but it could be done if you put in the hours.Overall, I highly recommend this study guide and other resources such as the online practice tests.

This is a simple way to study for the extra. Learning without the wrong answers seems to be a good way to be able to get the answers right by spotting them quickly and easily.

Used a Craig Buck book like this for my General test and found it a great help in preparing for the test. You certainly should read the official ARRL book for more complete coverage and understanding of the material. But this book is direct and efficient delivery of what you need to know to pass the test.
