All of the wonderful goodies my grandma used to make, and just in time for Christmas! A brief history of candy making plus chapters on hard candy, chocolate creams and fondonts, fudge, caramels, taffy, candied nuts, popcorn, and candied fruits and flowers. I had all of the ingredients for southern pecan pralines on hand, so I had to whip up a batch. I'm munching on them as I type, and boy are they good! I download the book hoping to find a divinity recipe for the holidays, and that was one recipe that was not included... but with all the wonderful recipes that are, I am far from disappointed. I highly recommend it. Happy holidays to all, I'm off to make some peanut brittle!

I found the history as interesting as the recipes. Unfortunately there is no index for the recipe, but the chapters are nicely organized. I would have preferred a printed book to allow for written notes in the margin. One other reviewer noted that the recipes were all "public domain" and that there was "nothing new" in the book. I have to respectfully disagree. I've been making candy for years and not one modern recipe calls for the use of vinegar. Molasses has all but dropped out of candy making. I also didn't realize corn syrup was available at the turn of the century. Fun trivia in here. Thank you for compiling the information. I've enjoyed it this look back in time!

Author Pearson Anderberg has presented an extensive extensive collection of historical recipes in her cookbook 100 year Old Recipes You Can Still Make Homemade Candies.The author starts the book with the historical perspective of candy making and describes some of the techniques in history behind it. She also provides the explanation behind the measurements for example c. equals cup or t equals teaspoon. The cookbook is written in non-standard recipe format. The recipes are written more like what you would see 100 years ago where the ingredients list and text were often written in a combined fashion. She also lists the different stages of candy making, for example, the numerical equivalent for thread stage or caramel stage.There is no active table of contents making navigation a bit difficult but not insurmountable. Some of the recipes you will find in this cookbook include:Bonbon BaseChristmas BonbonsBasic FudgeBrown Sugar FudgeCandy CanesPopcorn BallsOrange SticksRecommend with caveats given.

I never got this book on the 100 year old Recipes. Been so busy with Christmas and never noticed it until you asked for a review. So can't give one on something I never received.

Although the recipes are feasible, and like recipes I have seen before, there is poor uniformization. Recipes use different forms of measurements from recipe to recipe, such as weighing sugar as a pound for one recipe but measuring in cups for the next. I like that it holds to the traditional recipe, but author should have "translated" recipes so they all follow one form of measurement. It seems things were just copied into a paragraph form from sources. A waste of money, all these recipes are free domain.

I'm very glad I got this book free. It might be wonderful in print but, an e-cookbook without a searchable index is next to useless.

I am a advid cook Always looking for new recipes, the older the better. I have found a few recipes that I have tried and they are great. With some of the measurments I had to research to get the amounts. I found the directions humorus in some of the recipes. Loved it and am recomending it to all of my friends who love to cook..

Any candy maker would love this hidden treasure. I have been making candy for this side of forever and always am on the look out for recipes. Finding 100 year old recipes are a treat links where you can purchase the natural and pure ingredients is awesome. A must for any candy maker.
