reat lasagna, Garfield was born in the kitchen of an Italian restaurant on a winter's night in 1978, while outside snow fell like gratd Parmesan cheese. He weighed five pounds, six ounces at birth--that's big for a kitten!--and right from the start showed a passion for Italian food. the restaurant owner, forced to choose between Garfield and closing his doors for lack of pasta, sold Garfield to a pet store. Garfield thought he was a goner until Jon Arbuckle walked in the door. The rest is history.

About the Author
Jim Davis was born on July 28, 1945, in Marion, Indiana. He later attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he distinguished himself by earning one of the lowest cumulative grade point averages in the history of the university. The Garfield strip was born on June 19, 1978, syndicated in forty-one U.S. newspapers. Today it’s syndicated in more than 2,100 newspapers worldwide with more than 200 million readers, leading Guinness World Records to name Garfield The Most Widely Syndicated Comic Strip in the World. Davis has had many successes with Garfield,including four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program and induction into the Licensing Hall of Fame (1998), but his most prized awards are from his peers in the National Cartoonist Society: Best Humor Strip (1981 and 1985), the Elzie Segar Award (1990), and the coveted Reuben Award (1990) for overall excellence in cartooning.

I have been buying the separate Garfield books as they are released in Kindle format on Amazon, but for some reason seven random volumes (2,3,4,19,26,37,38) are restricted to the USA only. I have tried contacting Amazon and the publishers several times but no one can provide an answer why. The complete set of separate Garfield books can currently only be bought in the USA, and I have wasted my money.If you plan to buy a collection of Garfield books, buy the more recent 'Garfield Complete Works' instead.
The Amazon website indicated that the e-book Garfield at Large: His 1st Book was the first collection of the comic strip "Garfield." This book is classic Garfield before he became more streamlined in weight that we know now. We can see in this e-book that Garfield is much smarter than John and that Garfield enjoys tormenting John and anyone else in the vicinity. If you like the Garfield comics, you love this book.
It is soooo fun reading Garfield books. So very nostalgic for me. Good times! It is particularly cool seeing the beginning of the strip in this book.

Excellent comics as expected (who doesn't flip for Garfield?!). The only thing I was disappointed about was that I thought it was going to be a lot thicker like a half an inch. Either way, the pictures are excellent and the paper quality feels good in your hands. It's about a quarter inch of fat, furry, lasagna-loving fun! I recomendamos buying this for yourself or someone who loves Garfield!
The world would be a better place if we learned a few lessons from a cartoon cat. All Garfield books are worth having and re-reading again and again for laughs. One of the genuine FUNNY characters that has been created without catering too much to the politically correct brigade.Keep up the great work Mr Davis and thanks for giving us something to laugh at.
You can't go wrong with Garfield... unless your name is John or Odie. lol I read this when it first came out and kept my hubby awake with my snickering in bed. Not snacking, snickering. Fantastic read, buy one for yourself and your friends. Just don't read it in bed unless you are alone.
